Solo and Ensemble Contest Solo and Ensemble Contest

This opportunity happens every March.

**  Students can choose to perform as soloists (alone), or an ensemble:
duets (2), trios (3), quartets (4), quintets (5) or larger.

**  Music is chosen from a list that the state provides.  I will help you choose an appropriate piece. You can view the list at www.wsmamusic.org
You can also search the WSMA (Wisconsin State Music Association) list on Smart Music.

**  You will prepare over the course of several months.  Ensembles should plan on rehearsing AT LEAST once a week together.  You will need to arrange practices together outside of school

**  You will perform for a judge.  7th-12th graders will perform for a score and earn medals.

**  6th graders perform for "critique only" (feedback only)

**  Scores are rated from I (one) to V (five).  One is the best score possible...and so on down.

**  I highly recommend that anyone wishing to do a solo should be enrolled in private lessons or have Smart Music.  The solo list requires a teachers help to prepare appropriately.  This is NOT meant to punish students but to make sure they are prepared appropriately to have a positive learning experience.  7th & 8th graders could possibly prepare a Class C solo without a teachers help as they should have acquired a good foundation of skills by that point to cover that level of music.
If you are interested in lessons.  See the lesson teacher list on the home page of this site.
